Shop Pay verification code
A Shop Pay verification code is a six-digit code that confirms it's you when you use Shop Pay. You receive the code by SMS or email.
Reasons you receive a verification code
You might receive a Shop Pay verification code for any of the following reasons:
- You're using the same device that you used to opt in for the first time after setting up your account.
- You're using a new device or a new browser.
- You select Shop Pay at checkout.
Learn more about how a Shop Pay account is created.
Your Shop Pay account is linked to your phone number and email address, so if you save your details when checking out at a store that offers Shop Pay, this creates a Shop Pay account. Because this happens during checkout, it's easy to forget. This is why you might receive a verification code, or have an account that you don't remember setting up. If you don't want a Shop Pay account, then you can opt out of Shop Pay or delete your Shop account.
Verifying your Shop Pay account at checkout
When you need to verify your account during checkout, you receive a verification code by SMS to the mobile phone number that's associated with your account. The SMS message says "XXXXXX is your Shop verification code" where XXXXXX is your six-digit code. Enter the SMS code in the checkout when prompted, and then complete the checkout.
Alternatively, you can choose to verify your account by an email sent to the primary email that you use for Shop Pay. Enter the six-digit verification code sent to your email, and then complete the checkout.
